iPhone update fun!
Saturday, 29 September 2007
So Apple warns their latest update will likely trash your iPhone if you unlocked or jail breaked it. If you unlocked it, which would allow you to use a provider other than AT&T, you're most likely sitting with an iPhone in a bricked or simi-brincked state. Why the hell would you risk the update? The warnings were all over the net from Apple as well as others. It seems anyone with half a brain would have set the phone back to it's original state prior to the update then update to the latest one once it was released. Then you simply wait for others to unlock with the current updated version before moving forward with another unlock. Either way, your phone may not work and you cannot take it to Apple, because you voided your warranty!

iPhone
Wednesday, 19 September 2007

I am not a big fan of cell-phones nor am I a big Mac guy, but my wife loves Apple and went nuts over the iPhone. Also was greeted my my Windows XP NTFS drive mounted in read/write! Wow!

You may have heard that if you're running Linux that you do not need anti-virus applications, well I disagree just a bit. I agree you have less to worry about than your Windows running friends, but there are viruses available on Linux. Many are sitting on the Internet as harmless college homework and research, but as more companies and home users adopt Linux for server and desktop use the more likely virus activity will increase. If you're very computer literate or think before you act you may never need anti-virus protection on any system, but people like to click things, download things, and even computer literate people have slips.

Creating a simple DVD in Kubuntu
Sunday, 22 July 2007
Creating DVD content in Kubuntu. First off let me start by telling you to not bother with VCD. Unless you have the right stand alone DVD player it will be a waste of time. I have tried using both command line and GUI tools and haven't had much luck. DVD-R are fairly cheap these days, they work better, and really are pretty easy to make. Alternatively OGG Theora is great if your'e wanting to play back on you computer. DVD can be easily ripped to your hard disk using Thoggen .
