You must have the ATI driver setup and working. To setup the ATI drivers on Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty read this .
After installing the proprietary ATI driver and your default monitor you can setup dual head, if your card supports it, with full 3-D. This is for the ATI Radeon X1300/X1550 Series, but you can try it with other multi-monitor cards supported by the proprietary ATI Linux driver. This should also work on laptops for the external display. You may also try setting it up in System Settings, but I haven't had luck with that.

Installing the latest ATI driver in Kubuntu Feisty test 5 and up.
Warning, this can hose your OS! Best if you have a little experience with xorg; although, I walk you through a bad xorg. Older Ati cards may not be supported, I only use a Radeon 9800 as my oldest card so earlier cards may not be supported. |

I downloaded and installed Mandriva 2007 Spring RC1. I am pretty impressed. I have been using PCLinuxOS, which is a fork, but I find the packages way to limited so I may switch to Mandriva for a bit. I used Mandriva, or Mandrake, for awhile a couple of years ago because it was so advanced over many other distros, especially when it came to Wacom and widescreen support. The Mandriva distro never fails to amaze me, but this release is amazing! If you think Beryl or Compiz is cool then Mandriva pushes this a bit further by using Metisse. Live CD using Gnome and Metisse can be downloaded here on Mandriva's FTP area.
