I am not a big fan of cell-phones nor am I a big Mac guy, but my wife loves Apple and went nuts over the iPhone. Of course I argued the logical, it's expensive, it's proprietary, it locks you into a single service provider, and iTunes (Apple) has you by the nuts and for what? A phone! She actually listened, but as time went on I noticed the iPhone hackers were making this phone actually more worth while, even breaking free from AT&T for those brave enough to give it a go.

I replaced my laptop drive for a larger
drive and decided to go ahead and load Tribe 5. I was blown away!
Install was a breeze as usual, but once installed I was amazed to
find that my Wacom Graphire II tablet, my ATI M10 video card
required no configuration at all. Also was greeted my my Windows XP

You may have heard that if you're running Linux that you do not need anti-virus applications, well I disagree just a bit. I agree you have less to worry about than your Windows running friends, but there are viruses available on Linux. Many are sitting on the Internet as harmless college homework and research, but as more companies and home users adopt Linux for server and desktop use the more likely virus activity will increase. If you're very computer literate or think before you act you may never need anti-virus protection on any system, but people like to click things, download things, and even computer literate people have slips. |

Creating DVD content in Kubuntu. First off let me start by telling you to not bother with VCD. Unless you have the right stand alone DVD player it will be a waste of time. I have tried using both command line and GUI tools and haven't had much luck. DVD-R are fairly cheap these days, they work better, and really are pretty easy to make. Alternatively OGG Theora is great if your'e wanting to play back on you computer. DVD can be easily ripped to your hard disk using Thoggen . |

Direct sound recording in Kubuntu |
|
Monday, 09 July 2007 |
Recording what you hear through your sound card is trivial in Kubuntu using ALSA. This will work for Ubuntu in Gnome also. You do not need any fancy software, magical configurations, or archaic terminal commands. All you need is KRecord and a wav editor like Audacity, Rezound, or a audio file converter like soundKonverter with mp3 or ogg support. You can record through Audacity and Rezound also, but they have given me trouble from time to time. |
