gauge

BUG: there is a bug when setting "custom" data source, it will not work so it must be updated from ../flash/flashdata.asp (or ../flash/flashdata.php), which is the hardcoded default. I am aware of the issue and wil get it fixed eventually...

Open Source Flash meters, gauges, and gadgets for live dashboard web applications! Language and platform independent. No XML parsing. Simple, HTTP and your favorite langauge/engine is all you need. PHP and ASP examples included, but can use any language including Javascript and Ruby. GPL version 2 or higher license.

Objects included temperature gauge, resource meter, pos/neg meter, dual needle gauge, in/out gauges (shown above), and more. View the live examples page for a complete list.

Tested platforms Linux, Windows XP/2003, OS X 10.4

Tested Browsers Firefox, Flock, IE7, Safari (OS X), Opera

Requirements : Only one, you need a web server like IIs or Apache for these to work.

Limitations :  Possible there could be heavy server loads due to the amount of requests these objects make. I would not put a ton of these on a heavy traffic site! I have a dashboard running all of these and seem to have no problems.

See them live You can right click and view source in the browser for any object to see how it works and how simple it is to use.

Also, see my Canvas/Javascript Gauge example here.

In the examples you will find a setvariable() example where you can update with your own input. I may make a separate project for those with an Ajax example. I liked the way that worked for Javascript better than my current implementation. It should work with other languages as well, but I may end up making special libraries. All of that depends on my schedule so it may be awhile. I'd really like to do these in Flash 9, but I do not see that in the near future unless you want to buy me a copy, LOL...   yea... anyway

5/8/2008: So I decided to play with Mootools , ajax, JSON, and the pure Canvas\JS gauge and now have a pure javascript gauge that is updated live getting data in JSON format. If you want to check it out it is here .

5/10/20008: Made a Flash gauge updated using Mootools 1.2 Request.json() for live updating, which can be found here . If you want to learn how to add a Flash object using Mootools and send a variable to Flash automatically without manual data input this will be good for you to take a look at. It's super easy too...

If you need an XML based solution or would like a stand alone, serverless, version I have my old XML examples available here .

For really nice charting and graphing see Open Flash Charts
