Videotrace, 3-D modeling from 2-D video PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 13 July 2008
A friend sent me a link to a video to 3-D modeling application called VideoTrace that looks really cool, but it's not a new technology.  Back in 1996 there was a product that would allow you to interactively model a 3-D object from an image or series of images for about $500.00USD. You couldn't model directly from a video, but if you create stills of the video frames needed to get all sides of the object to be modeled, you're basically doing the same thing. I can't remember the name of the product; although, it does still exist, but there is yet another that does exactly the same thing, Autodesk Imagemodeler.

I would love to see VideoTrace get incorporated into Blender3D ! Now that would be really awesome! Considering Blender has some ZBrush like modeling techniques and has many features seen in products like Maya this would really be an asset in making Blender the best of all the high end 3-D applications for game, movie, product design and visualization, and illustration.
