After upgrading my first gen iPhone to the 2.0 update I was unable to use the mail app. It would crash and I was unable to delete or change settings for my accounts in Settings. I updated on Vista, but this also happened to my wife who updated from a Mac.
To fix this simply delete your iPhone backup, turn off syncing, and restore your phone again. You can also simply setup your phone as a new phone in iTunes when restoring. I added my accounts and now everything works. Sucks I have to add my contacts back, but at least I can sync my Gmail contacts making the manual setup not so bad. After restoring and setting up your email go into iTunes and choose what you need to sync and sync your phone... My AppStore apps were even still there waiting to be added back. The iPhone back up can be found under your profile on Windows and Mac. For Vista it is here:
\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup |
