Alright, why the hell is SPAM illegal on the internet, but the crap fed to us on cable television, movie theaters, billboards are not?
What's the difference really? I don't ask or want the advertisements in my electronic mailbox, but I never asked or wanted the crap that comes on my cable channels either. I have never been accepting of this, as I find paying for cable a means for these corporate freaks to make a buck so why do they insist on commercials? I don't mind commercials on local television, because it's how they keep on air. How about all that crap that comes to your land mailbox! Absolutely nothing there I requested!
DVR is a most wonderful technology that allows me to record programs directly from my cable television and gives me the choice to skip past the spam! Not missing a stupid show isn't what makes DVR important to me. We all know it will be replayed a million times so how the hell can you miss anything these days.
So Microsoft applies for a patent to basically cram SPAM down my throat on DVR and without me requesting it! Is anyone getting as sick of this crap as I am? The fact that they will specifically target my interests really pisses me off more. How dare they spy on my interests and purchasing habits. They all need to f#$% off IMO. I should say good luck, because I really don't buy much and I can't imagine they will advertise Linux and open/public domain literature.
Either way, if it's illegal to send unsolicited ads to me in electronic mail it should be equally illegal to do it elsewhere. If Microsoft, or anyone else, has to obtain my banking records and/or credit card usage history without my permission to get detailed information on my purchasing habits to target this spam to me, because that is the only way I can see them gathering this data on me, then they are breaking any pretexting laws also (and enjoy the spam popup if you follow this link!). The MPAA hates this law and is trying to get it shot down as they enjoy double standards also. This country is all about double standards and hypocrisy!
I guess they will soon make it illegal for me to use an open alternative to my cable providers DVR, like MythTV, just like they have made it illegal for me to install decryption software to playback my legally purchased DVD movies on my Linux computer! |
